DANIEL MEYBURGH
We are delighted to announce and celebrate the outstanding achievement of one of our alumni, Daniel Meyburgh, who secured first place at the South African National Artisan Awards (SANAA), held on Saturday, 5 September 2026, in Johannesburg.Daniel achieved this remarkable accomplishment in the Artisan Category: Automotive Motor Mechanic, once again demonstrating excellence, dedication and professional competence in his field.
Daniel completed his studies at Iqhayiya Campus.
We extend our heartfelt congratulations to Daniel on this exceptional achievement. We are incredibly proud to see our alumni continuing to excel and making their mark in the artisan sector.
We asked Daniel a few questions about his journey, his achievement and the people who contributed to his success, and this is what he had to say:1. Congratulations, Daniel Meyburgh, on winning the SANAA Award for the second consecutive year. How did you feel when your name was announced as the winner, and what does this achievement mean to you?
I was overwhelmed with excitement when my name was announced as the winner. I am immensely proud of this achievement, particularly because it marks my second consecutive SANAA win.
2. Briefly describe your career journey since graduating from PE TVET College.
Following my graduation from PE TVET College, I continued my career journey at Magic Auto Sales and Service Centre, where I currently build engines and mentor younger mechanics.
3. Please tell us where you work, explain your field of work and share what inspired you to pursue this career path.
I work at Magic Auto Sales and Service Centre as an Automotive Motor Mechanic. My inspiration to pursue this trade came from my fascination with engines and my interest in complex engineering. I have always enjoyed understanding how engines work and the technical challenges involved in repairing and building them.
4. Looking back on your journey, who would you like to thank and acknowledge for the support, guidance and encouragement they provided in helping you reach this milestone?
Looking back on my journey, I would like to sincerely thank Magic Auto, Tolli Bosman, Ceajay Bosman, Gerhard Pretorius, Mark Smails, and, last but certainly not least, my dad. I am grateful for the support, guidance and encouragement that each of them has provided throughout my journey.
5. As a proud PE TVET College alumnus, how has your TVET education contributed to your success and prepared you for your professional journey?My TVET education has contributed significantly to my success. It taught me the importance of doing things correctly and according to the required standards. Although being a mechanic requires a great deal of out-of-the-box thinking and problem-solving, learning to do things correctly and according to how they are intended to be done helps to minimise failures in the workplace.
A TVET education also provides students with the opportunity to learn and practise tasks that they may not necessarily encounter in their current workplace. This means that when they are eventually faced with those tasks, they have the knowledge and practical experience required to deal with them confidently.
6. Would you recommend TVET education to young people? Why do you believe TVET Colleges play an important role in developing skills and creating career opportunities?
Yes, I would definitely recommend a TVET education to young people, particularly those who enjoy working with their hands. Pursuing a trade is something special, as skilled artisans play an important role in the development and growth of our country.
TVET Colleges provide students with practical skills and knowledge that can open the door to numerous career opportunities. There is also a significant shortage of skilled tradespeople, which creates strong employment opportunities for qualified artisans.
7. What are your future goals, and what message would you like to share with current TVET students and aspiring graduates who are working towards achieving their dreams?
My future goal is to join a motorsport team where I can be at the forefront of innovation and development within the automotive industry.
My message to all current TVET students and aspiring graduates is simple: do not give up when the going gets tough. You are going to have bad days and face challenges along the way, but never lose sight of your dreams. If you are willing to put in the hard work, remain committed and persevere, you will eventually achieve your goals.
