PORT ELIZABETH TVET COLLEGE LAUNCHES WOMEN ENTREPRENEURSHIP EMPOWERMENT (WEE TVET) PLATFORM FOR YOUNG FOUNDERS

On Monday, 7 September 2026, Port Elizabeth TVET College officially launched its Women Entrepreneurship Empowerment (WEE) movement at the Dower Campus. The session brought together 10 aspiring young female entrepreneurs for an interactive, women-led initiative designed to create a safe space to engage, encounter shared challenges, and support one another on their entrepreneurial journeys. The sessions are designed to be engaging, develop the whole person and, very importantly, be fun!
The WEE initiative will primarily be led by the needs of the young women in the movement. The launch was led and organised by the College’s Lead Entrepreneurship Coordinators: Ms. S. Barry, Ms. Boltino and Ms. Mjigima.
The highlight was a dynamic guest speaker, Maletsatsi Rachosi, an EMC student, who shared her personal entrepreneurial journey. Her journey was one everybody in the room could learn from. It was one of humble beginnings and facing adversity with a positive mindset.
Attendees described the launch as both exciting and deeply encouraging, with many expressing gratitude for the new platform tailored to their needs, which was collected through a needs analysis.
The WEE TVET initiative was made possible through strategic partnerships with the British Council, ECSECC (Eastern Cape Socio-Economic Consultative Council), SERC, and the DHET TVET Regional Office. The organisers further acknowledged PECTVET as the preferred service provider engaged to help initiate the WEE TVET programme. The success of this initiative will lead to rolling it out to the other EC TVET colleges.
About the WEE Platform
The WEE platform aims to nurture a supportive community where young women can access mentorship, peer learning, and practical guidance as they develop and grow their ventures. By using women’s leadership and lived experience, the initiative seeks to lower mental barriers and accelerate opportunities for aspiring young female entrepreneurs within the TVET ecosystem.
