NCOP VISIT TO PORT ELIZABETH TVET COLLEGE, IQHAYIYA CAMPUS

The National Council of Provinces (NCOP), through its Select Committee on Education, Science, and Creative Industries, conducted an oversight visit to Port Elizabeth TVET College, Iqhayiya Campus, on Friday, 24 October 2025.

The purpose of the oversight visit formed part of Parliament’s Oversight Priority Plan, which focuses on infrastructure development and maintenance. The Committee, in collaboration with the Eastern Cape Provincial Government, aims to ensure that schools across the province provide an environment conducive to effective teaching and learning.

During the visit, Ms Matikinca and the SRC chairperson presented information on the following areas:

– Profile of the College
– State of the infrastructure (classrooms and workshops)
– Condition of workshop equipment
– Ablution facilities
– ICT infrastructure
– Sports facilities and campus programs
– Relationship between the Student Representative Council (SRC) and management
– Student performance and pass rates
– Availability of student learning materials
– Health and wellness programs for students
– Reports on sexual harassment

Presentations were delivered accordingly, followed by comments and feedback from the NCOP where necessary.
