MANDELA MONTH: IT IS STILL IN OUR HANDS TO MAKE A DIFFERENCE
As we commemorate Nelson Mandela Month and prepare to observe Mandela Day on 18 July, we reflect on the enduring legacy of Tata Madiba and the values he stood for — unity, compassion, service, and justice.
This year’s theme, “It’s still in our hands to combat poverty and inequity,” calls on all South Africans — including us here at Port Elizabeth TVET College — to act and make a difference in our communities.
Mandela Month is not just a time of remembrance, but a powerful reminder that each one of us can be an agent of change. It encourages us, as both staff and students, to give back in ways that uplift others, whether through volunteering, supporting a cause, or simply lending a helping hand to someone in need.
At Port Elizabeth TVET College, we believe that education goes beyond the classroom. This month, we invite our college community to live Madiba’s values by:
- Participating in community outreach projects
- Donating time, skills, or resources to those in need
- Spreading kindness and compassion in everyday interactions
- Supporting initiatives that promote social justice and inclusion
Every small act of service counts. By working together, we can honour Mandela’s legacy and contribute to a better, more equitable South Africa.
Let’s make every day a Mandela Day.
