THE SKILLS DEVELOPMENT ACT:

IMPLICATIONS FOR INDUSTRY
The Skills Development Act, which was promulgated in October 1998, will introduce major   changes to education and training. It replaces the existing Manpower Training Act, under which industry presently trains. Training must now be conducted against NQF-registered standards. Trained and accredited assessors and moderators must conduct the assessment of competence against these standards. Providers of training, could either be companies, colleges or training centres which must also
be accredited.

THE AIMS OF THE SKILLS DEVELOPMENT ACT INCLUDE:
' the improvement of the quality of life of workers, their prospects of work and labour mobility.
' the improvement of productivity in the workplace and the competitiveness of employers.

' to use the workplace as an active learning environment
' to provide employees with the opportunities to acquire new skills
