The Sexually Transmitted Infections (STIs), Condom, and Sexual Reproductive Health (SRH) Awareness Week in Gqeberha event occurred at the Iqhayiya Campus on Friday, 28 February 2025. Ms. Ntandokazi Capa, the MEC for the Eastern Cape Department of Health, led the event.
The goal of the event was to encourage students, community members, and college staff to take better care of their health by using condoms. Attendees were also informed about recent data showing that the Eastern Cape has the highest rate of new STIs in the country, with the Nelson Mandela Bay Metro having the second-highest rate of new STIs in the province
Several dignitaries attended the event, including Acting Executive Mayor, Ms. Yolisa Pali; Acting DHET Regional Manager, Ms. Mbontsi; Acting Principal, Ms. Kim Matikinca; College Council Chairperson, Mr. L. Buku; College Council Deputy Chairperson, Ms. N. Moerane; DP Academic, Ms. J. Figg; Campus Managers, Ms. W. Kiewiets, Mr. D. Velapi, Mr. C. Jonas: SRC President, Mr. L. Toso. Additionally, representatives from various NGOs and churches were also present.
The event was a huge success. We express our gratitude to everyone who contributed to the success of this event.
