NATIONAL ADULT LITERACY FOR EMPOWERMENT CAMPAIGN 2026-2030 LAUNCH

The college, together with other Eastern Cape TVET colleges, attended and exhibited at the official launch of the National Adult Literacy for Empowerment Campaign 2026–2030, held at Lovedale TVET College, King Williams Town, on Tuesday, 12 May 2026.
Delivering the keynote address at the launch, Deputy Minister of Higher Education and Training, Dr Mimmy Gondwe, highlighted that literacy extends beyond reading and writing. She emphasised the importance of equipping communities with digital, financial, entrepreneurial and civic skills to enable inclusive development and economic participation.
The Deputy Director-General responsible for Community Education and Training Colleges, Ms Thembisa Futshane, also outlined the campaign’s purpose and objectives at the launch event.
Under the theme, “Empowering Communities through Literacy for Inclusive Development”, the campaign aims to equip adults with literacy, numeracy, digital, financial and entrepreneurial skills to improve livelihoods and create greater opportunities.
The initiative forms part of the government’s commitment to reducing adult illiteracy and building inclusive, empowered communities across South Africa. The campaign aims to empower one million adult learners by 2030 through literacy, numeracy, digital, entrepreneurial, and civic skills development.
