ENHANCING TEACHING THROUGH WORK-INTEGRATED LEARNING
The lecturers at Russell Road Campus recently participated in the Lecturer Work-Integrated Learning (WIL) Programme, which was held in November 2025.
Lecturers from the Marketing, Hospitality and Tourism Department visited Sunrise Bluewater Bay Hotel in Bluewater Bay, Algoa Bricks, and the Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality (NMBM).
The purpose of these visits was to enhance teaching through practical, real-world experience. The engagements proved highly valuable, providing lecturers with significant insights.
The visit to Algoa Bricks offered lecturers the opportunity to observe the end-to-end processes within the brick manufacturing industry. This practical exposure enables teaching to align more closely with current industry practices, ensuring that students receive relevant and up-to-date knowledge.
The visit to Sunrise Bluewater Bay Hotel allowed lecturers to engage with hotel operations, observe industry practices, and interact with professionals. This experience served as a meaningful learning opportunity, effectively bridging classroom theory with practical application.
The visit to NMBM aimed to deepen lecturers’ understanding of practical applications within the tourism sector. This experience will assist lecturers in remaining aligned with current industry practices, thereby enhancing teaching methodologies.
We extend our sincere gratitude to all lecturers who participated in the WIL programme, and we thank Sunrise Hotel in Bluewater Bay, Algoa Bricks, and NMBM for allowing our lecturers to complete their WIL at their premises.
