Port Elizabeth TVET College had the honour of hosting the Eastern Cape TVET College Student Support Services (SSS) Capacity Building Workshop on 11 and 12 September 2025 at the Dolphins Leap Conference Centre in Gqeberha.
The workshop comprised a series of thought-provoking and empowering sessions, which significantly enriched the collective knowledge and practice of all delegates. Through active engagement and the sharing of best practices, participants worked collaboratively to strengthen the overall effectiveness of student support services across the province.
Participating colleges reaffirmed their shared commitment to fostering institutional environments in which all students are recognised, supported, and empowered to reach their full potential. There was a clear consensus on the importance of Student Support Services working collaboratively with other departments, particularly Marketing, to ensure the development of a student-centred college. This integrated approach positions SSS not only as a support mechanism but also as a vital partner in promoting cohesive communication and alignment across institutional functions.
The workshop was attended by a diverse delegation, including representatives from The Presidency, the South African Public Colleges Organisation (SAPCO), the Department of Higher Education and Training (DHET), Higher Health, HEDSA, and SATVETSA. Also in attendance were Deputy Principals, Assistant Directors, Student Support Services (SSS) officials, SRC leadership, Marketing and Communication Officers, as well as other staff members from all eight Eastern Cape TVET Colleges.
Their presence demonstrated a united and steadfast dedication to strengthening student support within the TVET sector, while also emphasising the profound value of coordinated collaboration across institutions.
