Sikelelwa Duba
Champions aren’t made in gyms. They are made from something they have deep inside them: a desire, a dream, a vision. They must have the skill and the will, but the will must be stronger.
Sikelelwa Duba, a champion in information technology and computer science (IT&CS), who, along with her teammate, took first place in the System Analysis & Design category of the EC IT&CS Competition.
Sikelelwa Duba was born and raised in Gqeberha. She attended high school at the Ethembeni Enrichment Centre. After completing her high school career, she applied for the IT&CS course at Russell Road Campus.
“College life has been an incredible journey for me. Transitioning from high school to college brought a sense of academic freedom and personal growth that I truly cherished. While exams and studies have presented their challenges, I’m proud to be in my final year, which speaks to my perseverance.” said Sikelelwa.
Sikelelwa had the following to say, “There have been hurdles along the way, such as student strikes and issues with our computer labs. Despite these challenges, I’ve made it this far, and I’m grateful for the experience.
Looking ahead, my plans include finding a job while enhancing my skills, to acquire SAP knowledge, as I’m particularly interested in systems analysis.
Participating in the ITCS competition was an amazing experience. I enjoyed every aspect, from the hands-on practicals to the nerve-wracking presentations. I’m thankful for the opportunity and the support from our lecturers.
To fellow students pursuing IT or any other major, remember that some days will be tougher than others. When times get tough, lean on your faith and believe in your abilities. Take care of your body, mind, and soul, and don’t forget to balance your studies with self-care. Always reward yourself for your hard work.
So go out there and show the world what you’re made of!”
